What we publish, and how to fix it

This site makes dated claims about real people and real institutions. These are the rules it follows and the way to tell us when it is wrong.

The rule

We publish only what a source we actually read actually says.

Not what a search result says. Not what another site says. Not what is obviously true. A coach's name appears here only when it was read on that school's own athletics site, and every record stores the page it came from and the date it was read. Where a school's site could not be read, the field is empty and says so. Right now that is 84 of 159 programs.

What we refuse to publish

  • A name we could not read on a first-party page, even when it appears in press coverage or on another directory.
  • Anything about a minor. No student athlete's name, image, contact details, location or schedule appears anywhere on this site. Coaches and national team players are adults whose employment and selection are public.
  • A claim sourced to a news aggregator. An aggregator link is a redirect, not a page that says anything, and the build refuses records that cite one.
  • Rankings, ratings or endorsements. We record what is, not what we think of it.

How we keep it current

Every record shows when it was last checked. Inside 90 days it reads as a check date. Past 180 days the page says the record is out of date and to confirm it with the school, because a site that hides its own staleness is worse than one that admits it.

Two automated checks run against the data. One re-reads the page each record cites and fails if the claim is no longer there. The other reads each school's own news feed and flags any coaching announcement naming somebody other than the person we publish, because the most common way to be wrong is to have read the right site on the wrong page.

Corrections we have made

When a record changes, the change is published rather than quietly swapped.

Tell us we are wrong

If a record about you or your program is wrong, we want to fix it, and you do not need to prove anything. Point us at the page on your own site that has it right and we will match it, note what changed, and say when.

A correction address is not published yet. Rather than list one nobody reads, this page says so plainly. Until it is here, the fastest fix is to update the page on your own site that we cite, because our checks re-read it and will pick the change up.
