State status
Who sanctions the sport

21 state associations run an official girls flag football championship. Each status below was read on that association's own site.

This page is about associations and their decisions, not about players. It records nothing about any student athlete. Where an association's site could not be read, the state is left out rather than guessed, so absence here does not mean a state has no programs.

Girls participants, 2025–26

2,736 schools to 3,990, according to NFHS.

The NFHS participation report says 37 states will sanction or run pilot or independent programs by the following year. That combined figure is broader than the 21 sanctioned associations listed here.

What is missing

22 states are recorded, and only 3 carry a championship format. Most association sites build their pages in the browser, so a plain read returns navigation and nothing else. Kansas and Oregon could not be confirmed either way and are treated as unresolved rather than assumed. First seasons, classifications and participation counts are not yet recorded anywhere here.
